Dream

"Imagination is more important than knowledge"

-- Albert Einstein"

I grew up with Science Fiction books: Asimov, Clarke, Simak... The advances of science and technology fascinated me. I dreamt about the Hi Tech future: robots, space travel, artificial intelligence.

Still there had always been other strains there. An interest in nature and a love for rural Sweden, the farming villages my parents had grown up in, where relatives still farmed.

I was a bit hesitant here I guess. Astronaut or farmer? The technological evolution didn't seem to solve all problems. War and injustice, pollution and drugs, unemployment and social misery. It seemed as things got worse rather than better even though we put people on the moon and designed machines that made millions of calculations per second. Naturally I wanted justice, peace, love and understanding.

I guess it became clearer around 1980, when we had a referendum about atomic energy. There was a lot of discussions about alternative energy etc. Now I glimpsed a vision of a future where innovations and new technology was much closer to the ordinary people, a future where the scale of things wasn't monstrous, where people were resources and development went in hand with nature.

I still hope that the future won't be to far from that vision, but in general my dreams are more personal right now I guess. I'm beginning to imagine that I will have a family with my loved Auste, and that we will have a home together.

I suppose the dream of building a house started about 15 years ago. I think it will take another five years or so before it happens, but one day... There are several options of course: Build a new house from scratch - seems like a big project. Buy a decent house somewhere in the country side, maybe an old farm? Either case, I have a lot of ideas on what to do with it. It's going to be a healthy, practical and beautiful home, where tradition will (hopefully) harmonize with modern technology.

Other dreams regard my professional development. I want to be very good at what I do. I am a generalist though. I prefer to have a broad knowledge, and I rarely dive so deep into one detail that I become the foremost in my field. So, maybe I will never write this great program which will lead to fame and fortune...

I always have projects running though - software or something else. I'm really fascinated by Robin Crossby's fantasy roleplaying world Hârn. I have a lot ideas around that. I'd like to get time to get my private Hârn campaign rolling again for my friends. I'd like to do something more of the Hârn Religion Team which I host and try to coordinate. (Meaning that I generally whine and try to persuade people to write stuff.) Concerning HRT, I hope that I will be able to wrap it up this autumn, and give it a more coherent design - like I did with my web pages. (This doesn't mean that it can't continue to develop.)

When HRT is done, there are a whole bunch of other potential Hârn projects: There are regions to develop. There are adventures to write. There are computer tools do design. There are aspects like crafts and technology, literature and arts, agriculture and biology...
